Why Train Jiu Jitsu?

Self Defense That Works

Jiu-Jitsu is a proven form of self-defense.  It has stood the test of time in even the most intense circumstances such as professional mixed marital arts. At NVBJJ we will teach you valuable techniques around ground survival, restraining opponents, and submissions to subdue someone of any size. And since Jiu-Jitsu is strictly grappling, you will get regular sparring opportunities to test and improve your skills against resisting opponents of different sizes and body types.  We typically include 40-60 minutes or sparring every class.

Physical and Mental Health

The physical and mental health benefits of training Jiu-Jitsu are countless.  On average, 30 minutes of hard rolling or sparring can burn up to 500 calories and is a great source of both aerobic and anaerobic endurance.  Not only will the exercise aid in clearing your mind of stress, Jiu-Jitsu is a game of human chess that will never stop challenging you to think outside the box. The combination of endless techniques to learn with the subtle physical concepts of balance, framing, and leverage are a fantastic holistic approach to self-improvement.

Improved focus and Concentration

Technique and strategy are key to your success in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  When engaging with an opponent it is your mind against theirs.  As you progress you will start to learn how to develop and implement different strategies against different partners while sparring.  You’ll start to see how the techniques you learn will start to work in correlation with your mind.  The mental focus and problem solving abilities go beyond the mat and can help you not only in Jiu-Jitsu, but in your everyday life.
